Fire Protection Publication's Research Library
Library Resources
The Fire Protection Publications (FPP) Library was established to support the research requirements of FFP editors while researching and writing IFSTA manuals. In 1995, the Director expanded the scope of the Library and in addition to supporting FPP, the Library is being developed to provide assistance to: students and faculty in the School of Fire Protection and Safety Engineering Technology; students, faculty and staff at OSU; fire service personnel in Oklahoma, and fire service personnel in the U.S. and throughout the world.
The Library contains over 9000 books, 160 fire service, computer, and training and management related serials, 4000 technical reports, 420 linear feet of archival material and artifacts, as well as videos, slides and cd-roms. The material is being cataloged in an inhouse database and Library personnel will assist with reference requests which may be submitted via e-mail, telephone, or fax.
The Library serves as a contact point for walk-in customers for both manuals and Fire Protection Society memorabilia.

Archives
The Fire Protection Publications Archives house photographs, slides, manuscripts, objects, textiles, films, recordings, etc. All of this material relates to the history of the operations of Fire Protection Publications, Oklahoma State University Fire Service Training, the International Fire Service Training Association, the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress, the OSU School of Fire Protection and Safety Technology, OSU Fire Protection Society, and the Stillwater (Oklahoma) Fire Department.
All of these programs have an intertwined relationship in their history, their mission, and location. The fire service related programs at Oklahoma State University can trace their history to the early 1930's when the Stillwater Fire Department served as host to statewide training sessions. During these meetings, the need for uniform training material and methods became greatly apparent. Oklahoma firefighters and Oklahoma A & M organized the Fire Service Training Association (later known as IFSTA) which fulfilled this need.
The Fire Protection Publications Archives preserve materials that show this history. Susan F. Walker, head of the FPP Library and Archives, began the archives in 1995. Most of the materials in those initial collections were already contained within the Library. Since then we (the Archives) have received donations from people connected with the early history of the fire programs, the Stillwater Fire Department, and the OSU School of Fire Protection. Today, the archives contain 239 separate collections ranging from audio/visual materials to textiles.
